      5D Universe
      The total Valiant Universe, consisting of three space dimensions and two time dimensions.
      Absolute time
      A specific direction in the time-plane. A time-line that aligns with this direction will be extremely stable and appear sluggish compared to other time-lines. Absolute time does allow for alternative time-lines, but that is extremely rare. Noticeable is that events in Absolute Time can (unnoticeably) force changes in time-lines that seem to us to have already occurred. This is most clearly noticeable in the case of the Lost Land. The Lost Land is oriented along the 3D curve that Earth's surface has traced in 5D (along our time dimension), it has Absolute Time as its time dimension, and what should have been Absolute Time is a physical dimension. It is thus unable to divert along several timelines (to be precise it has one strong main time-line and all alternatives quickly diverge back to it). This strange orientation causes events in the Lost land to affect time-lines in normal space. The clearest example is Gilad. Like all others his actions during Unity were continuously affecting which time-lines became dominant in our time dimension, but he was the only one who was continuously being replaced with Gilads from alternative time-lines. The only time the effect was visible was when he got a scar. Likewise, when being transported from the Lost Land, due to his strong will, Aric was unnoticeably replaced with an alternative. This explains why there is no contradiction in having two Arics in the same time-line (one capturing ORB, and one buried under ground). Thanks to this proximity to absolute time, the Lost land is extremely rich in the Geomantic energy that Master Darque longs to master.
      Ectotheric energy
      Description:
      The energy of magic. Can be stored in a human or machine. Can be wasted.
      Origin:
      Neural processes, whether organic or electronic. The mechanical side of thought processes. Can be drawn from peoples' belief.
      Use:
      Can allow a psionic almost limitless possibilities. The simplest use is as energy blasts. It can be used to transport large masses, for teleportation (opening rips in 5D space), changing the composition of masses and much more when available in large quantities.
      Manipulation:
      Ectotheric energy can be manipulated by Psionics and anyone who understands the process. In order for anyone to manipulate it, it must be present. Normal thought process creates extremely small amounts. Previously it has only been generated by Malevs (and even they prefer to extract it from others) and by a computer (that was specifically programmed by Lazlo Noel, based on his experiences from Malev-6). Now also, aided by his nanites, the new Rai can produce Ectotheric energy, which makes him the only one ever to both produce and manipulate it. His knowledge is so far limited to what 1-A has picked up and taught him, but with training from his mother (who should still remember a lot from her participation in the duel against Malev-6) and by digging up the old archives of Lazlo Noel's experiences with Malev-6, his abilities should become formidable.

      Energies
      Raw Energy is limited to reality. In the 5D Universe there is a scale of energies (from most biologic to most technical) that doesn't follow the physical laws of our universe. Necromantic Energy, Geomantic Energy, Mind-centric Energy, Psionic Energy and Ectotheric Energy. Mind-centric Energy, being on the middle of the scale is by far the most powerful energy, but it's also the most difficult to manipulate. The energies that are further away from Mind-centric Energy are less powerful, but easier to manipulate.
      Geomantic Energy
      Description:
      The positive side of organic energy.
      Origin:
      Exists in all organic systems, especially the Earth.
      Use:
      Can heal organic matter. Unlike Necromantic energy that reanimates tissue from the outside, Geomantic energy heals from within. Geomantic energy can influence which time-line that becomes the local main time-line, which means that a skilled Geomancer seemingly can control the behavior of any mass (especially if the mass does not hold any other energy that might reject the Geomantic commands).
      Manipulation:
      One manipulation of Geomantic energy is to extract traces of Mind-centric energy in the time-lines (past, present of future). The dream-land is an example of this. The most extreme traces of Geomantic energy are left on the book of Geomancers and the bones of Tashi Khutan.

      Main-time-line
      A time-line that, at least locally, is more stable than others. Instable time-lines tend to diverge back to stable time-lines. Main-time-lines only merge under extreme influences. Such a join will typically be ripped apart into unstructured and unoriented 5D space.
      Mind-Centric Energy
      Description:
      The energy that constitutes our minds. The fabric of reality.
      Origin:
      The personality side of thought processes.
      Use:
      Since Mind-centric energy is in the middle of the spectrum it is the strongest energy and has the greatest possibilities. It is however also the most difficult to use. Its different uses normally reflect the personality of the yielder. The fullest range of Mind-centric energy can be used by Omega personalities. Since Mind-centric energy (like Geomantic energy) can follow energy-traces in time and since it partly flows outside of the 3D world we perceive, Mind-centric energy can function subconsciencely, and it can look as if an Omega power can act by itself. On the border between Mind-centric energy and Psionic energy is the ability to move a mind into another body. This is difficult even for an Omega personality, but can be done. It can also be done by a Necromancer, when combined with a limited use of Mind-centric energy and when concentrating his use of Necromantic energy on this purpose.
      Manipulation:
      Flows freely in unreality. Leaves traces on the 5D curve of any mass. When submitted to unstructured 5D space (like many parts of Unreality or Wormholes) it can overcome the conscience part of our minds and leave a mind spinning in an infinite loop. The brain-waves that are typical for a yielder of Mind-centric energy can be simulated artificially. When submitted to a badly calibrated simulation, these patterns can be permanent even in a being that hasn't evolved naturally to such a high level (as measured by the quantity of Necromantic energy present in the being).

      Harbingers
      Necromantic Energy
      Description:
      The negative side of organic energy.
      Origin:
      High-level organic life, only released through death or injury (blood). Released more efficiently if willingly. This together with the fact that Necromancers are aware of Psionic links indicate some relation to Psionic energy.
      Use:
      Its main function is to dissolve other energies. It strongly disrupts magnetism. The side of Necromantic energy that is close to Geomantic energy can be used to reanimate dead and heal injured organic tissue, even with maintenance of Mind-centric energy, but still not as naturally as Geomantic energy. Can also be used to reanimate organic tissue in ways that has no connection to its natural life. Necromantic fire is the direct opposite of natural energy-giving Raw energy. Necromantic energy can give control over the elements and human emotions (but a pure mind would not be affected).
      Manipulation:
      Can be suppressed by other energies (such as the Raw energy of daylight). It is manipulated by Necromancers.
      Examples:
      Master Darque, Shadowman, Dr Eclipse, partly Ravenus
      Pockets
      When pockets form in 5D they can be oriented in other ways than the default.
      Psionic Energy
      Description:
      A weak and less personal version of Mind-centric energy.
      Origin:
      The general human side of thought processes.
      Use:
      To read and affect the thought processes of others.
      Manipulation:
      Psionic links are much easier to establish when there is an emotional bond between the Psionic and the other person.
      Examples:
      All Psionics. After the Harbinger wars the number of activated Harbingers decreased rapidly. Psionics however became rather common, but their abilities are a mere shadow of Harbingers, and most of them are unaware of their abilities. M'Ree was one of the foremost and she gave Leeja a good training.
      Quantum field
      The glue that makes time-lines diverge and rejoin.
      Raw energy
      Description:
      Energy that follows the physical laws of our 3D universe.
      Origin:
      Big Bang. Everything else is just a matter of moving energy.
      Use:
      Close to unlimited.
      Manipulation:
      Through technology. Most efficiently by energy beings.
      Example:
      Energy beings can manipulate more energies than just Raw energy, but typically that's where their powers originate. Solar, Erica Pierce, partly Ravenus
      Reality
      Any 3D projection of a limited part of the total 5D Universe that is governed by a time-line in the 2D time-plane.
      Subspace/Sub-space
      The borderline between a time-line and unreality. Short-cuts through our 3D space can be found in subspace.
      Time-line/Time-lines
      An organized part of the 5D universe.
      Time-plane
      The surface defined by the two time dimensions.
      Time Rips/Time Arcs
      Rips in 5D are quite common and can form gates that we perceive to be in space, time or both. Their spontaneous occurrences are almost exclusively along mass-curves in 5D. Thus a time-arc starting on the surface of Earth is most likely to correspond to an ending that is also on the surface of Earth. The rips can be direct gates between two standard orientation part of 5D, they can lead into a non-standard orientation part of 5D or they can lead to an unoriented area. In the latter case anyone who does not have (or is guided by someone with) the energy pattern to visualize 5D will quickly force open an exit rip into standard orientation space (if the rip is wide enough or he/she is strong enough to pass through it). With enough control of mind energy it is possible to affect where the exit arc will be. This control can be improved strongly with the right equipment.
      Unreality/Unstructured 5D space/Unoriented 5D space
      Any part of the 5D Universe that falls between established time-lines.
